Fertile Myrtle and Failure of "Plans"

So here it is, my first real post. This all started reading a friends Blog, Parenting Three (When Can I Pee Alone?), on "Would you rather be a 'fertile Myrtle' or have fertility issues?”

Fertile Myrtle here too! 3 in 4yrs, and we were only "trying" with the 2nd one. It seems that if there is even a chance, I'm pregnant. With the 1st I was taking BC. We had been married a little over a year when I was having trouble with BC and the doctor had switched me to something new. The something new gave me horrible headaches and I stopped taking it.....3wks later, guess what I had in hand? And it was positive....I was in total shock, wasn't this supposed to take a while?? Guess not, lol. This was a big FAIL to our first "plan" of waiting at least two years. A few wks after our 2nd anniversary Caleb was born, and wow did life change. I quit working and became a stay at home wife and mother. And since I wasn’t raised in a home with a stay at home mother,  I had NO IDEA what I was getting myself into. I thought when I stopped working and had a baby that I'd have all the time in the world to keep a clean house, etc. That baby boy was a lot more demanding than I ever imagined.

Hubby and I knew that when we had children we wanted them close together, about two years apart so that they could be close and we could be DONE! That way too once they were in school I could go back to work. In our "plans" I would only have to sacrifice about 6yrs of not working and we were ok with that. I got pregnant right off, just as planned. There are 27 months between the first two boys. After Carson was born I started examining and questioning hormonal BC (was it good?), what God wanted with our lives and not what we had planned. Although always being against it, I felt really convicted to homeschool.....ohh no??? How is this going to work with our finances and "plans"? Can we really sacrifice this many years with me not working? I wanted to be like Jonah and RUN, but that really worked out for him, huh??

While all that was going on in my head........Am i supposed to have another baby? what? this isn't in the plans either.  Am I completely insane? Can I even handle it.....I guess God knew best, because before hubby and I "decided", guess what I had in my hand....again?? Yep, pregnant again. 21 months between #2 and #3. God really blessed me in that pregnancy too (which I will definitely have to share with you all at another time, a lot of healing went on). I met so many people and learned so much. I know it's all for the best. While awaiting for my period to return, we are once again faced with the question....any more?? I have no clue. Some days I think there is no way I could handle it, other days I couldn't imagine there not being a baby around here...I mean I've had a baby here for so long now. But I'm so exhausted too, and what about when I have to do school too? Will I be able to manage? Do I really want to hear it again......"Don't you know what causes that?"...."When are you going to get your tubes tied?"........"You're having another?"......."Can you afford another baby?" They go on and on. Guess we need to really be fervently praying for God's will to be made clear to us. In the mean time, I'm trying to enjoy life as it is now.

  1. Love this post.

I think it's so funny when we try to plan out our lives and the timing of things like having babies. God is in control even during those time when we think we are. I happened to be a fertile myrtle as well - conceived our son pretty quickly after we started trying and then our daughter was conceived when he was 10 months old, so my kids are 19 months apart. Definitely thankful to not have to worry about fertility issues.

Don't worry about people giving you a hard time about having more kids. They are a blessing from the Lord - if you desire more children, then that is wonderful. I think many of us (myself included) sometimes get in the mindset of craving "me" time and thinking of finances and sleep and all the stuff that doesn't really matter and letting it affect our decision to have or not have more children. I've never met someone who, in their old age, said "I wish I'd had fewer children." They always say the opposite, that they wish they'd had more.

  2. thanks for sharing this... I have heard those comments many times, but have learned to let them be like water on a ducks back. I am so grateful for my Children and would love it God would bless me with another.
